He was presented with the prize on mid-October as his third album the album was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from concerts in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.
