PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
