Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
